What
is the "Master Resume Writer" Credential?
To earn your MRW credential, you truly must be at the top of your game! This certification is designed specifically for highly experienced, well-qualified resume professionals who combine expert writing skills with a strategic approach to resume development and top-flight English language skills.
The MRW serves to:
- Give you a credential
that really means something to your clients. They'll know that they've
hired the "best of the best" if you're a "Master"
Resume Writer. In turn, you'll be able to increase your resume writing
fees.
- Offer an EXCLUSIVE
resume-writing credential to professional resume writers who have clearly
distinguished themselves at the TOP TIER of the resume-writing industry.
- Offer a credential
that truly assesses your UNIQUE resume-writing knowledge and expertise.

that demonstrates your excellent command of the English language and
grammar.
- Create a community
of the top resume writers worldwide. This will allow you to leverage
your skills and expand your client base with confidence, knowing you
can tap into a community of your colleagues worldwide - other resume
writers who are at the "top of
their game" just like you.
MASTER
RESUME WRITER REQUIREMENTS
- Years of Experience:
5 years of paid professional experience in resume writing (must be documented
with a client receipt, copy of advertisement, copy of membership certificate,
copy of business license or any other material that will verify you've
been in the resume writing business for a minimum of 5 years).
- Resume Writing
Credential From A Resume Writing Association (optional, but does impact
the requirements for #3 below).
- MRW Portfolio Submission

IF YOU ARE ALREADY
A CERTIFIED RESUME WRITER, you must prepare and submit 5 client
presentations. Each presentation must include (1) statement of client
needs/objectives, (2) statement of resume writing strategy and rationale,
(3) all materials supplied by the client, (4) the first draft of the
resume (with client changes indicated), and (5) finished resume and
cover letter.
The Career Management
Alliance recognizes and will accept the following resume certifications:
--CPRW (Professional Association of Resume Writers)
--NCRW (National Resume Writers Association)
--CRW, CERW (Professional Resume Writing & Research Association)
NOTE #1: Resume
submissions for portfolio must include five different resumes:
- One resume
for an industry or profession that's new to you.
- One resume
for a senior manager/executive ($100,000+ candidate).
- One resume
for a client in a technology industry.
- Two of your
very best resumes.
NOTE #2: Be
sure that the resumes you submit are different in format and visual
presentation. No templates; no boilerplates; no common look for
all resumes.
NOTE #3: Be
sure to keep several copies of your MRW portfolio submission for
use as a client marketing tool. You can share your portfolio with
clients to demonstrate the tremendous amount of work that is required
of you to have earned and retained your certification.

10 client presentations Each presentation must include (1) statement

resume and cover letter.

for a graduating student with unique experience and/or qualifying
credentials.

for a client in sales, marketing and/or business development

for a client who has been out of work for longer than 6 months.

for a client in education or health care.
- Two of your
very best resumes.
NOTE #2: Be
sure that the resumes you submit are different in format and visual
presentation. No templates; no boilerplates; no common look for
all resumes.
NOTE #3: Be
sure to keep several copies of your MRW portfolio submission for
use as a client marketing tool. You can share your portfolio with

of Career Management Alliance's Business Writing Program and Exam
MASTER
RESUME WRITER APPLICATION PROCEDURE
Step
1. Document your 5 years of paid professional
resume writing
experience. You can document this with a paid client receipt
from
5+ years ago, copies of membership certificates from professional
resume writing associations, copies of certificates for your resume
writing certifications, copies of print advertisements from
newspapers or Yellow Pages, copies
of published articles you
authored on resume writing, copies of articles in which you/your
resume business were featured, or any other document that verifies
your 5 years of experience.
Step
2. Prepare your MRW Resume Portfolio as
outlined in the
information above. If you have earned a resume writing certification
from a professional resume association, be sure to include a copy of
that certificate along with your 5 resume submissions. If you do not
possess a resume writing certification, no documentation is
necessary; just include your 10 resume submissions.
Step
3. Submit documentation of your 5 years of paid
professional
resume writing experience along with your Resume Portfolio to the
Career Management Alliance. Mail to Jacqui
Barrett-Poindexter,
Career Trend, 6922 NW 77th Terrace, Kansas City, MO 64152. ALL
MATERIALS MUST BE MAILED WITH HARD COPY. Email submissions are NOT
acceptable. Include payment for $295 with your Portfolio.
Step
4. Upon receipt of your materials as outlined in Step 3
above,
the MRW Committee will review your Resume Portfolio to
ensure
that it meets the standards for writing excellence. Every effort will
be made to review your Portfolio within
45 days
of receipt.
Portfolio
Grading Criteria. For each portfolio submission, you must provide the
following:

Proof
of strategy/processes in gleaning client’s needs/objectives;
i.e., proof of understanding client’s specific circumstances,
target goals and collection of materials from client that substantiate
the resume/cover letter development strategy.

Proof
of your excellent command of the English language – expertise
in writing, including vocabulary, grammar, punctuation, spelling, and
overall strategy in applying the English language to masterful resumes.

Diverse,
distinguishable, and polished formats among the various portfolio
submissions.

Focus
on exceptional resume writing strategy:
-
Are
the resume and cover letter strategically on target? Do they
effectively map to a target goal and show the potential employer both
what, and how, specifically your client has accomplished certain goals
in the past that will emphatically support the potential employer going
forward?

Do
the resume and cover letter prove your client is outstanding; that s/he
is unmatched in his/her capabilities to provide a return on the
employer’s investment (ROI)?

Do
the resume and cover letter provide nuances of your client’s
value proposition? Do they uniquely and positively set your client
apart from other candidates with similar bottom-line qualifications?
-
Do
the resume and cover letter entice the interviewer to ask the right
questions?

Are
the resume and the cover letter compelling?
-
Do
the resume and cover letter illustrate true mastery in resume writing?
Portfolio
Resubmission Policy:
If
you submit an MRW portfolio and it is not approved, you will have the
opportunity to resubmit the portfolio within 45 calendar days. A
portfolio resubmit fee of $75 will be charged.
If,
after resubmitting the portfolio, your submission is not approved,
you must wait six months to reapply in order to allow sufficient time
to focus on areas of improvement.
Step
5. Once your Resume Portfolio has been evaluated and
approved,
the MRW Business Writing Program and Exam will be
forwarded to
you via email. You will then have 14 days to complete and return the
exam to The Alliance. The exam may be returned via email, fax or
mail.
Step
6. Your MRW Business Writing Exam will be graded
by the
MRW Committee. If you pass the Exam with an 85% or better, you will
be awarded your MRW. If you do not pass with an 85% or better, you
will have 30 days to retake the Exam and earn a passing grade. If you
do not pass the Exam the second time, your Resume Portfolio will be
returned to you. You must then wait 6 months to retake the Exam and
resubmit your portfolio.
STEP-BY-STEP
SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS
Step 1. Submit your
portfolio of resumes along with verification of your five years of resume
writing experience.
Step 2. Your portfolio
will be reviewed by the MRW Committee to verify your expertise in all
facets of resume writing, strategy, design and production.
Step 3. The MRW Business
Writing Exam will be emailed to you. As noted above, you will have 14
days to complete the exam and return it to the Career Management Alliance
for review. Assuming that you pass the exam with an 85% or better, you
will then be notified that you've been awarded your MRW credential and
all supporting materials will be mailed to you.
RENEWAL
REQUIREMENTS
The Master Resume
Writer credential must be renewed every two years for a fee of $75. Renewal
requirements include the submission of 5 full client presentations and
a 2-page essay on what new information, strategies, tips and techniques
you've learned over the past two years as they relate to writing resumes,
cover letters and other job search marketing documents.
REVOCATION
POLICY
The
Career Management Alliance holds the right to revoke any individual's MRW if:
- That individual
does not meet the MRW renewal requirements.
- That individual
is dismissed from any company or any other professional association
for unprofessional or unlawful conduct.
- That individual
is found guilty in a court of law for unlawful or unethical business
practices.
